Sondhi Tola a historical colony of old Lucknow.

Sondhi Tola was establisded by a Sondhi migrant from Punjab & Sindh Prant before Akbar period The colony was in existance when Akbar visited first time to Lucknow. The details are mentioned in the book"Purana Lucknow" edited by Abdul Halim Sharar who had taken the contents from an old Journal Gulistan-e-Lucknow .{ I will be grateful if any body resurch the history of the foundation of this colony}

The historical Haveli of a Seth the Diwan of the Nawab of Awadh was also in Sondhi Tola. It is sung that this Haveli was built in the same period when Bada Imambara( the palace of the Nawab Asuffudddaula) of Lucknow was built.The delapidated Haveli now has been demolished and sold by the decedents of the Seth. A part of this Haveli was purchased by Late Munnu Lal Sondhi 'Rahis' of Sondhi tola who was residing adjecent to this Haveli in the late 19th century AD.( Shri Munnu Lal Sondhi died in 1934.). Thatpart of the Haveli is also in delapidated form. One of his decedents family is still residing there. There was an old historical Peepal  tree out side of Munulal Sondhi's  house in SondhiTola,Lucknow ..That tree was Dev Esthan of the many Khatri families of Mirjapur,UP. and unfortunately the negihbours (Bhalla and Jain families) had demolished that tree during 1980s for extention of their houses. So, a history hws ended. The tree was hundreds year old.

Lala Munnu Lal Sondhi "Rahis"

About two century ago a lady of Sondhi Khandan became Sati ( put fire herself with the dead body of her husband) in a garden at Fateh Ganj, Buddheshwar Mahadev temple road, near Aalamnagar Station , Lucknow.

One more interesting thing with the point of view of History as well as religious aspect. The Majar of the parents of Shahameena Saheb is in Sondhi Tola adjacent to the house of Lal Ji Tandon ( former MLA).

There is a Dwarkadheesh temple which is also known as Manna Sondhi Ka Thakurdwara in the narrow street of Sondhi Tola which connect the street to Bari Kakli ji Temple and other link to Dahela Kuan. the Archtecture of this temple is still so beautiful.But the maintenance and keping its Jhad-Fhanoos are not satisfactory. Late shri Channu Babu Puri was the head of the trust of this temple.I do not know about the present members of the trust. When and who laid down its foundation?. As I recall my memory that the wife of Late Manna Sondhi ji built this temple in the memory of her husband and formed a trust and deposited a huge amount as an endowment fund for its maintenance and she might has also mentioned that a sum of Rs.50/- per month would be givento her daughter’s family . Her daughter was married in a Duggal Khatri family and later her decedent adopted her  maternal sir name Sondhi. Perhaps, now one of the decedent of this family is heading the trust and so the trust is still alive.

Lala Munulal Sondhi ke Bade Makan ke bahar lage Chabutare par ek bahut Purana  Peepal ka ped tha jo es domanjeele makan ke pure ahate main chaya hua tha jiski khoobsurati ka bayan karna mushkil hai. Yeh sirf ekmatra sundar ped hi nahin tha apitu yahan par Kolkata aur Mirzapur se Khatri pariwar apne bachchon ke Munda avaam Yagopaveet Sansakar karne aate thee. par aas-paas ke padosiyon ko apne makan ke extention ki chaha ne es ped ki shskhaon ko katna suru kar diya aur dheere dheere eska astitwa hi khatam kar diya.Aaj bhi mujhe woh peepal ka pyara ped yaad aata hai. { Maine uski yaad main gamle main  peepal ka paudha lagaya hua hai apne Delhi ke ghar ke bahar. lagbhag 25 varsh ka ho gaye hai} bade bade teerth esthano ko chodkar(mirzapur se Vindhyachal) Hamare Chabootre par Mundan/janeu sansakar karne kyon aate thee ek shodh ka vishay hai. Log agyanta ya swarth  main ek etihas ko nast kar dete hain.
