Bawdi Raja Karn Ki-Vellary

Bawdi Raja Karn ( Kalturi Dynasty)Ki-Vellary,Katni,MP
Visiting Vellary, District Katni,MP, I observed few ancient temples and no one taking care

And just opposite to it a huge size of Bawdi is in the basement with lovely architecture on the

pillars and hanging chairs are attached with the walls at certain height from the level of the water. These might have been built for pulleys .

On other side of the Platform (rather bridge or /dressing space /..) of  Bawadi there are number of stairs to reach the water.

The name of Raja Karan should not be confused with the Raja Karan of Mahabharata. A very famous king of Kalturi Dynasty was Raja Karan Dev  This Bawli might have been built by him.

However this was not supposed to be permitted to built it  as the structure and size of the Bawdi shows that there must be some extravagant ancient complex at the site of the Bawdi which needs to be explored.
I do not know whether this site is in the notice of ASI/MP state Department of Archeology or not. If  not it is worthwhile to visit and take over under their protection and in case it is in their notice then why it is kept in such an ugly shape /condition which could be observed by looking the photographs.

I visited the above site 2nd time today the 29th April,2014 and found a usual formal Notice board of ASI with not clearly readable write up that no construction would be made before the 200meters from the monument. However the people have used the boundary wall of the Bawadi for building their house and number of new houses have surrounded the beautiful site. The officers of the ASI should visit this place and take necessary strict steps against the encrochers including the Jain Trust who have made their temple adjacent to it.

Today I discussed with the senior officer of ASI,Jabalpr region about
the  Raja Karan's Bawdi at Bellari,Katni. He says that monument is not
under the protection of ASI inspite of the Notice Board is installed
at the main entrance of the Bawdi. I suggested him to inform the
Department of Archeology, MP in case the ASI is not interested to take
over it.It appears that the work which is supposed to be done by the
concerned departments are not bothering even being informed by Aam
Admi the tourist.It is discouraging.
