Baolis of Umariya Pan,Dist.Katni & Hata,District Balaghat,MP

MP must be having hundreds of Bawdis( the beautiful comfortable and luxurious well) but as much as I have seen their maintenance is very poor. Today I have visited four Bawdis viz. Maharajpur, Panagar and Jujhari Dist.Jabalpur, and Umariya Pan, Dist. Katni. The Bawdi at Umariya Pan which is the most beautiful and comfortable for the tourists, has been repaired recently, fifty percent, by the State Department of Archeology, MP, is also having lack of maintenance. The Bawdi at Bellary, known as Raja Karan Ki Bawdi, which is under the protection of Archeological Survey of India, has worse condition, no one is to take care of that and encroachers have full liberty to build their house in the Bawdi  and the question of making their houses in its surroundings is a very easy task.

According to me if the maintenance cannot be maintained, the expenditure on repairing is the wastage of public fund. The maintenance could be done only if a care taker /security guard cum sweeper is deputed to look after the site. However, one of the Bawdi at Hatta,which is under the State Department of Archeology, MP, on the way to Balaghat, where the security guard was employed but he was not available at the site and the Bawdi was so dirty and the people were playing ZUAA , using it as casino. So, the frequent checking by the senior officers is must. Second the most important factor is the timely payment to the daily wagers otherwise they will keep themselves in searching their livelihood from some other occupation and ignore their duty.

 Department of Archeology has done some renovation but due lack of maintenance provision it looks the wastage of Public Funds.
